The White House on the Nation's Health  (June, 2009)

In recent meetings with health care providers, health care consumers, and members of the Congress, the White House has outlined the top preventable diseases in the United States today.  Ironically, they are all the diseases that Healthy Performance claims their expertise.  They are:

     1.  Heart Disease.  (1 in 4 women will die from heart disease, while 1 in 30 will die from breast cancer).

     2.  Diabetes.  (23.6 million Americans, or 8% of the population, have Diabetes and this number is rapidly growing).

     3.  Obesity.  (2/3 of the U.S. population are overweight, and 1/3 are considered to be obese).

Tremendous amounts of money and countless hours of productivity are expended on these three VERY preventable diseases.  The reality is that if we reduce the obesity epidemic we now face, we will also impact the extent and severity of Heart Disease and Diabetes in America.  Obesity is a primary risk factor for the development of both Heart Disease and Diabetes.

So, by controlling body weight, we can decrease the risk for developing other diseases, and thus contribute not only to our own personal health, but to the health of our nation.  During a time when finances are stretched, both in our homes and in Washington, we can reduce unnecessary spending of health care dollars by reducing or eliminating these preventable diseases.
