Phosphatidyl-SERINE contains 500 mg of plant-derived (soybean) phospholipids supplying 100 mg of phosphatidylserine (PS). Until recently, PS was only available as a very expensive product derived from bovine sources, with microbiological safety problems. New technology has made it possible to concentrate this important brain nutrient from soybean lecithin, a safe and well-recognized source of phosphatidylserine. PS is active in cell membranes and is the major acidic phospholipid component in the membranes of the brain. Membranes are the working surfaces of every cell, carrying out the essential functions of cellular communication and hormonal signal transduction. Nerve cells, in particular, depend on healthy membrane function for normal neurotransmitter metabolism and nerve signal transmission.
Opti-DHA contains a novel ratio of essential omega-3 fatty acids, derived from marine lipid concentrate. Processed by molecular distillation, Opti-DHA is an excellent source of these fatty acids, providing 450 mg of docosahexeanoic acid(DHA) and 150 mg eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA) per serving. DHA is essential for brain and visual development and is vital throughout pregnancy to support fetal brain growth and formation of the retina and visual cortex. As the most abundant fatty acid in the brain, adequate amounts of DHA are needed throughout infancy and adulthood for ongoing optimal function. Vinpocetine supplies 10 mg of vinpocetine, a derivative of vincamine, from an extract of the periwinkle plant. Studies have shown that vinpocetine can be a powerful cognitive enhancement product. It is a vasodilator and thus can increase blood flow to the brain, as well as potentially improving the brain’s use of oxygen, thus enabling brain cells to continue functioning, even when oxygen supplies are cut off.
